About me and my approach
I have worked extensively with parents, step parents, grandparents, foster/kinship carers, children, teenagers, young adults and people with disabilities, across hospitals, schools, community organisations, private practice, and the out-of-home care sector. My prior work in Family Law has further enriched my understanding of complex family dynamics.
My Approach
I work alongside parents and the systems around the young person to understand and respond more effectively to the feelings and needs that drive their behaviours. This fosters supportive relationships and a nurturing world around each child, creating a foundation for wellbeing, growth, and resilience that they can take with them throughout their lives. I encourage parents to discover what they already know and add to it. I also support all types of co-parents, including separated parents, to find common ground in their parenting approach, while also recognising the strengths in the other’s different style.
Evidence-Based Practice and Inclusive Support
My practice is shaped by evidence-based frameworks that recognise the complexity of children’s emotional and social development, ensuring parents and young people have access to best practice psychological support. I draw on Mentalisation, Interpersonal Neurobiological, and Attachment-based perspectives—which are strongly supported by research. This just means I encourage parents to look beyond their child’s surface behaviours, using curiosity to understand what their child is expressing about themselves and the world, while maintaining reliable and predictable boundaries. This helps build resilience and lifelong emotional and behavioural competence.
I support and nurture all parenting roles within families, inclusive of genders, sexual orientations, and family structures. I also work with fathers who may feel sidelined or unsure of their role to help them feel more confident and connected with their children.
